To demonstrate its firm commitment to protecting the environment while creating a more sustainable planet, Toshiba America Business Solutions, Inc. recycled almost 200 tons of used toner products in 2014. Through the company’s“Zero Waste to Landfill” program, this amount of environmentally-harmful materials was prevented from spoiling open land.

To further underscore its eco-consciousness, the Irvine, Calif. content management innovator also recycles other vendors’ toner consumables, the first company to do so.

Via its partnership with Close the Loop, Toshiba dismantles the spent imaging products into usable parts, toner, plastic and metal. As a result, these elements may re-enter the supply chain for use in future products.

Toshiba – in alliance with Close the Loop – transforms the e-waste into eLumber to create such outdoor products as park benches, fences and garden boxes for community organizations and nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity. Plastic from spent imaging consumables is also used in the making of rulers and pens.

“At Toshiba – from our executives to our rank-and-file employees – we all take immense pride in operating as sustainably as we possibly can,” said Toshiba America Business Solutions, Inc. Vice President of Distribution and Aftermarket Sales, Tom Walter. “Our sustainability ethos just as importantly extends to our customers. The success of our “Zero Waste to Landfill” initiative is a clear example of this shared interest,” Walter added.

Toshiba’s toner recycling efforts is one of the key elements for many of its industry-recognized e-STUDIOTM multifunction products becoming part of the EPEAT (Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool) registry. EPEAT is the definitive global rating system for greener electronics.
