Imagine a world with no more traffic jams. That’s what the latest evolution of Cisco Systems CSCO -1.97%’ two-year-old brand campaign, “Tomorrow Starts Here,” asks us to do. Unveiled today, the networking company’s “Firsts and Lasts” campaign, from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, features not the “firsts” that a connected world enables, but rather the “lasts”—the last traffic jam, the last missed delivery, the last product recall, the last blackout.

Screen Shot 2013-09-13 at 9.34.24 AMIt’s the next step for Cisco, which through its brand campaign has worked to position itself at the crux of the Internet of Everything—connector of myriad technologies, people, data, processes, enabling a better world and favorable business outcomes.

The “Last Traffic Jam” is the first spot in this latest iteration—breaking, not coincidentally, a week after the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It presents the traffic jam as a relic, an exhibit in a future museum, a curiosity for people who no longer experience them. “There are a host of technologies and solutions that Cisco brings to the table that help us move closer to the last traffic jam,” said Cisco CMO Blair Christie. “This is about the Cisco platform that is bringing all of this together to make something as powerful as the last traffic jam happen.”
