MELVILLE, N.Y., February 18, 2015 – Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., today announced that Data-Mail, Inc., a Connecticut-based direct mail production company has expanded its robust fleet of offset and digital printing equipment to include an Océ ColorStream® 3900 full-color inkjet printing system, part of the Océ ColorStream 3000 Series.

Founded in 1971 as a full service print and mail processing company, Data-Mail has grown to become one of the nation’s largest direct mail companies, producing over five million mail pieces daily. Data-Mail provides in-house services for all aspects of direct mail production for some of the largest companies and advertising agencies in the country, including Blue Chip companies in financial services, retail, publishing, healthcare, insurance, telecom, and high tech.

As part of its commitment to innovation, Data-Mail was an early adopter of high-speed color inkjet technology. In 2011, the company partnered with Canon Solutions America on the acquisition and installation of an Océ JetStream® 2200 inkjet printing system. As demand for high-speed variable color continued to grow, Data-Mail installed another Océ JetStream printer in 2012.

To further support their customers’ growing demand for even more creative personalized color print application development, the company added an Océ ColorStream 3900 high-volume inkjet printer to its production fleet in 2014.

According to Bruce Mandell, president of Data-Mail, the Océ JetStream 2200 presses got their customers thinking about new applications that pushed the boundaries of full-color, personalized, and customized print production. “As clients were introduced to high-speed color personalization, they started envisioning new applications, which created the need for full-color personalized print production  and short-run application testing,” he said.

The Océ ColorStream 3900 inkjet printing system proved to be the right fit with its extreme reliability, consistency, fast cleaning technology, and capability to run its twin engines independently. In addition, the press ramps up to color production speeds very quickly, making small runs more cost effective. “Full-color personalization is a new and evolving market,” said Mandell. “It’s not just about introducing an exciting new technology to our clients; it’s about being confident in our ability to deliver. That’s why we installed an Océ ColorStream 3900 printing system.”

Since its installation, the digital press has already enabled new applications that allow Data-Mail to produce direct mail packages with full-color personalized and customized printing not only on the internal components but throughout the piece, including on the outside of the package.

“We’re not a creative agency, yet we are actually designing specific applications and collaborating with our customers,” said Mandell. “When you have a new technology, everybody has to work together to find the right applications that are going to improve the customer’s ROI. Having the ability and capacity to provide high-speed variable full-color personalization on three machines is powerful and allows us to compete by providing our customers with even more value to each and every printed piece,” said Mandell.

Changing technology is one of the reasons Data-Mail began its partnership with Canon Solutions America. After over 20 years and more than 20 Canon/Océ printing systems on the production room floor, the trusted partnership still exists. “When we decided to begin the transition to high-speed color inkjet, we knew we had a lot to learn, and we wanted to learn from the best,” said Andy Mandell, Data-Mail’s Chairman. “As technology continues to change, you want to partner with someone you know is going to understand it and help you with client applications. We push Canon Solutions America hard, and they always come through for us.”
