The North Lexington Family YMCA celebrated the opening of its newly renovated and expanded facility, made possible by a $1.5 million matching gift from Lexmark.

Lexmark representatives and Lexington public officials joined YMCA leaders for the ribbon cutting ceremony, with the backdrop of the expanded wellness center featuring the Lexmark logo. The 7,000-plus square-foot wellness center is more than double the size of the previous space and contains all new cardio, strength training and free weight equipment.

The men’s and women’s locker rooms have been renovated and modernized. New additions include boys’ and girls’ locker rooms and family changing rooms along with a new multipurpose community room.

Other renovated areas include the kids’ play area, gymnasium, pool, group exercise studio and lobby.

“This is a very exciting day for the YMCA of Central Kentucky,” said David Martorano, president and CEO, YMCA of Central Kentucky. “This beautiful facility is our most modern and state-of-the-art Y and, I daresay, unmatched by our competitors in the market. We are so appreciative of Lexmark’s continued support of the North YMCA and for all they do to give back to our community.”

Jeri Isbell, Lexmark vice president, human resources, remarked, “This neighborhood is our home. And just like any good resident, we place great value on taking care of our home. One way we do that is by giving back to our Northside community, whether it’s donating land to the Hope Center to build its facility across the street, allowing the wonderful Legacy Trail to weave its way across our campus, giving property nearly 20 years ago for the Northside Y to be built on — and then, of course, helping the Y fund this magnificent addition.”

For Lexmark firmware development manager Tari Young, who has been a YMCA member the past 16 years and served on the North YMCA board of directors for four years, the renovation project is a source of pride.

“It’s exciting,” Young said. “To see our company step up and partner with the Y for the betterment of the Northside community is just an awesome feeling. It makes me proud as a Lexmark employee and member of the Y community.”
