Screen Shot 2014-02-18 at 9.26.25 AMThe East Rochester Union Free School District is a public school district in Upstate New York that serves approximately 1,200 students in the village of East Rochester and portions of surrounding towns. The district educates students from pre-K through grade 12 and has been recognized at the state and national level for its high standards for learning and student achievement.

The Challenge

The East Rochester Union Free School District wanted to continue its long-term strategy of offering students the opportunity to try new tools and technologies. This approach would help them be more productive in their work today and have new skills for the future.

In recent years, the district has upgraded their Xerox office fleet to include a Xerox® ColorQube® 9303 and a mix of Xerox® WorkCentre® 5700 series and WorkCentre 7775 devices. Additional Xerox® ConnectKey® MFPs will also be added in 2013.

The Solution

District Administrator, Dave Rovitelli, has led the school’s technology initiative, creating a phased strategy to increase the footprint of large Xerox® Multifunction Printers while eventually replacing more than 100 small, inefficient classroom printers across campus. By partnering with Xerox, a company already familiar with the district’s strategic vision, the goal of creating a more centralized, cost-effective and productive print environment—with greater focus on electronic documents—was well within reach.

The Results

With the consultative help of Xerox, the district was able to deploy five large Xerox® MFPs across campus. Students, faculty and staff immediately migrated to the feature-rich Xerox® devices and began to use them more frequently than the smaller printers. Eventually the district added two more Xerox® MFPs, which further reduced in-classroom printing.

Screen Shot 2013-10-04 at 9.47.03 AMThe transformation of the high school’s library into a technology center for students and teachers was the next logical step in the district’s strategy. A recent test of a new Xerox® WorkCentre 7225 device in the library moved the district a step closer to this goal and allowed students and teachers to create and use electronic documents for classroom and course work needs. To the delight of Rovitelli and the district, students and teachers jumped right in and used every feature available to them saving time and money on many student projects, club activities and internal district communications.
