MELVILLE, N.Y.Oct. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., today announced that longtime customer, Medius Corp. (Medius), is driving change in the way commercial printers utilize inkjet technologies after installing the award-winning Océ VarioPrint i300 sheetfed inkjet color digital press. With the installation, Medius becomes the first company on the West Coast to acquire the press and subsequently is at the forefront of inkjet technology investment in the commercial print market.

The leading-edge full service print provider has over 30 years of experience in the graphic arts industry supporting everything from print and packaging to fulfillment and eCommerce. With a mission built around providing a superior printing experience to each and every customer, Medius continues its evolution in an effort to cater to both new and existing customers’ global print needs. The commercial print leadermaintains its evolution by keeping up with the latest cutting-edge digital and traditional print equipment, and by providing its customers with a host of printing options regardless of the size or complexity of the job.

Operating as a forward-thinking company is nothing new for Medius, but with the installation of the Océ VarioPrint i300, it is now paving the way for a new generation to embrace inkjet. With this installation, Medius intends to prove that commercial print shops can not only succeed with the VarioPrint i300, but exceed expectations and support uniquely profitable print opportunities. At the heart of Silicon Valley, Medius resides in one of the technology capitals of the world, and as such, has continued to push the envelope as it pertains to inkjet technology. This embrace of new technology is best exemplified by Medius’ recent acquisition and claim to become a full inkjet commercial print shop in five to seven years – which for Medius and its leaders is viewed as a bold but fully attainable goal.

“We thought we’d be lucky to produce two million impressions with the VarioPrint i300 per month. We’re already at four million and utilizing it for every type of job, even starting to run books on it that we would never have thought imaginable,” said Mike Zaiavice president of Manufacturing at Medius. “Our entire business has now changed as we continue to shift types of work that were originally only done on offset to our inkjet press. Most importantly, quality has not suffered and uptime is significantly enhanced with the VarioPrint [i300].”

Producing a vast array of jobs for industries and applications that include technical publications, medical, tradeshow materials, data sheets, and pamphlets, among others, Medius has proven that a commercial print investment in inkjet can support such a wide variety of applications and even eliminate offset equipment altogether.

“Most notably, we are very impressed by the i300’s ability to produce saddle-stitch books and its reliability. We recently ran it solid for 48 straight hours,” commented Zaia. “Additionally, the ability to run ultra-short runs and much longer runs gives us the versatility to meet our customers’ needs and differentiate ourselves as one of the first commercial printers to take full advantage of this great technology.”

Helping customers like Medius, the Océ VarioPrint i300 combines the reduced costs of inkjet with the media and application flexibility of sheetfed production. The recently enhanced Océ VarioPrint i-series inkjet color digital press provides an advantageous proposition to print providers who are looking to grow their business by extending the crossover point for digital print versus offset, helping more pages migrate to digital print and generate new revenue streams. With features including Océ iQuarius technologies that empower high-speed, sheetfed inkjet versatility and iQuarius proprietary CMYK inks that provide outstanding quality and productivity with a broad color gamut, print robustness, and media compatibility at low inkjet cost, the Océ VarioPrint i-series continues to help customers, like Medius, change the game and redefine the industry at large.

“We’ve watched as Medius has continuously evolved to help offer cost savings to customers while providing high-quality output,” said Francis McMahon, senior vice president, Marketing, Production Print Solutions, Canon Solutions America. “With their newest investment in inkjet technology, they’ve once more solidified their commitment to growth and are now leading the way as a dynamic and visionary commercial printer on the West Coast.”

“We pride ourselves on doing everything in-house and ensuring our customers that quality and consistency never suffer while promoting a strategy that eliminates the need to deal with five or six different vendors,” added Linda Zaia, director of Marketing for Medius. “The Océ VarioPrint i300 is an integral part of that strategy and with its unmatched versatility we can visualize Medius operating using 100 percent inkjet in the future.”
