With the ever-growing importance of cyber security, the upcoming European Cyber Security Month has gained even more relevance, especially as the Covid-19 pandemic has changed work as we knew it. Remote work has hugely increased from 36% before to 88% after the beginning of the pandemic[1]. Reported phishing attacks grew by 667% in March 2020[2] as remote work became established. This is reflected in a troubling assessment by IT professionals with regard to IT security: 90% of IT professionals believe remote workers pose a security risk in general, and more than half (54%) believe that remote employees pose a greater security risk than onsite employees.[3]

Businesses have started to recognise the importance of cyber security. 88% of companies surveyed by IDC expect major changes to their IT strategy following the pandemic. A dedicated focus will be put on cyber security: 83% of companies are forecast to maintain or increase their budgets in this field, while in the midst of the lockdown (April 2020) budgets for strategic and tactical cyber security rose significantly. Spending on secure remote access, for example, increased from 26% at the end of March (20.03-23.03) to 43% at the end of April (20.04-27.04)[4].

This can be due to a lack of knowledge about which setup might fit the company best or to budgetary reasons,” explains Yoann Fortini. “Not securing IT properly in today’s world, and particularly this situation, is not an option, as this threatens the whole business.
