Salmon Companies has a fleet of 1,500 trucks and 3,000 employees who help keep the mail moving throughout the country. The company, which was founded in 1946 to haul mail for the USPS, has expanded from a regional transportation company to a key supplier.

Although the USPS is a government agency, it is also an independent arm of the executive branch of the government of the United States, mandated by law to operate like a business. The USPS seeks to partner with suppliers that can provide innovative and agile solutions, deliver high quality, cost-effective products and services, and demonstrate continuous improvement. Its requirements are the same as any private company would be with extra government-specific needs thrown into the mix.
