By Brad Harker, PrinterLogic – Should we move our print management to the cloud? That’s a question many CTOs and enterprise decision-makers are asking themselves these days. It doesn’t matter whether their organization is small, regional or global in size, or whether they’re focused on education, healthcare or engineering. The simple fact is that cloud print management is quickly becoming a solid and attractive option on account of its cost model and its potential to significantly reduce physical infrastructure.

If you’re currently among those decision-makers, one important thing to bear in mind is that there’s a crucial distinction between cloud printing and cloud print management.

  • Cloud printingpromises nothing more than print functionality—that is, relaying the print job from the client to the printer. Many cloud printing services limit themselves to this and offer little in the way of print management, making them more like a cloud print server than a total enterprise cloud printing solution. It isn’t uncommon to find that they need to be augmented with a dedicated print management solution to streamline printer deployments and other tasks.
