According to the Canon Print for Action survey, 76% of respondents believe books will still play an important role in society come 2030*. In addition to their educational impact, books can inspire and even serve as a stress-free escape for many.

To recognize the positive values books and reading can provide, each year on World Book Day, organizations around the world take the time to highlight the impact these great resources have on society by giving back to their local communities. In particular, Canon Solutions America’s customer, Baker Taylor Publisher Services (BTPS), formerly Bookmasters, celebrates by doing what it does best – providing its customers and book publishers with resources to help them promote learning and creativity.

As a premier book manufacturer for more than 45 years, BTPS serves about 800 customers, providing them with a range of more than 30,000 titles. Utilizing Canon’s sheetfed inkjet technology, BTPS is able to efficiently produce between 3,000 and 5,000 books a day, which fundamentally helps the company provide educational, inspirational resources to those who need them quickly.

Aligning with World Book Day’s main messaging of giving back to the local communities, BTPS works with its publishers to proactively reach out to schools and religious organizations in an effort to donate books, organize book drives and even invite people into its office for personalized tours. Through these initiatives, BTPS has been able to inspire young readers to put their cell phones down and pick up a book. When asked of any recent success stories, Brad Sharp, director of manufacturing at BTPS, recalls a time when a young boy created a draft of pages he hoped to turn into a book one day. To help him along his journey, BTPS was able to turn the manuscript into a bound book for him.

“There is a proven correlation between a child’s desire to read and their performance in school, and we are happy World Book Day serves as a holiday that reinforces the power books can have. It is more than just a day on a calendar; this is a real opportunity to inspire,” said Bob Gospodarek, vice president, Baker Taylor Publisher Services. “Books will not go away, and data tends to agree with the value they have on our society. We are happy companies like Canon Solutions America are helping to support these initiatives by not only promoting the benefits of reading books, but also the influence of print in a digital age.”
