Emi Insatsu Shiko recently bought not only a brand-new Heidelberg CX102-5L with LED UV but also a POLAR Pile Turner PW-4 ABV. The pile turner is equipped with the optional features of automatic turning and extended opening of 167 cm. The company is a traditional package printer with 90 years of history located in the industrial neighborhood of Yao city, Osaka.

“All the papers we buy need to be re-loaded onto in-house HD non-stop feeder pallets”, says Mr. Akihisa Emi, CEO of the company. “The BUSCH pile turner I used to own before POLAR was not able to take in a high stacked pallet from a paper mill. The top sheets always had to be removed manually by operator to make a lower height. This annoying extra work had to be done each and every paper pallets coming in from outside. The extended platform opening of 176cm on the POLAR PW-4 ABV made it no longer necessary – this is wonderful! PW-4 ABV is also very compact, taking less floor space to fit in my shop.”

The papers here are meant for carton papers over 3/10mm thickness, allowing approx. 2,500 sheets only sitting on a single pallet. You can imagine how fast the HD CX press empties its feeder thus there is a high demand for paper supply as well as pile turning work.

POLAR pile turner PW-4 ABV

The POLAR pile turner PW-4 ABV provides a high performance and short turning time, although it requires only little space. The pile to be turned is moved onto the platform. When closing pressure control flaps prevent the pile from being clamped excessively and ensure that printed sheets are handled with care. The platform is moved to a horizontal position for being turned. The turn itself is carried out automatically and afterwards the platform is again moved to a vertical position. All this is handled by the operator pushing a button only. Finally, the turned stack can be unloaded from the platform. The pile turner unloads the turned stack at the same position where it was taken up.

In the horizontal position for turning, the pile can be tilted 15°. In this position the pile can be ventilated and aligned. Ventilation improves the climate in the pile, ensures faster drying of the printing ink and neutralizes the smell. The result is a much steadier production process. The air volume, as well as the speed of the nozzles can be adjusted invariably. An adjustable hold-down clamp prevents sheets from “shifting upwards”. The vibration feature improves the quality of precisely aligned edges.
