Opportunities in document solutions after COVID-19

We have seen great change since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Change, which many expected to take several months – if not longer – has happened in days and weeks. At Kyocera, we responded to the pandemic as a team and we will face what lies ahead in the same vein – together.

As we slowly return to normality, we are faced with several key challenges. I am, however, extremely confident that Kyocera has the capacity and drive to meet these head on thanks to the strategies we have developed in the area of digital transformation.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the perception of remote working has changed drastically, and it is here to stay. It has given employees the freedom to enjoy greater flexibility and, from personal experience, I can say our team has been exemplary in terms of their commitment and motivation during this period of great disruption. I have no doubt this has also been in the case in many companies all over the world.

This is going to have a tangible impact on the document solutions industry. Firstly, there will be less employees working in offices and this will naturally see printing volumes decrease and change. Additionally, at least in the short to midterm, as companies slowly return to the office environment there will be a huge emphasis on reducing the risk of COVID-19 being spread. The physical layout of the offices we return to will have changed. There will be a focus on the limiting the sharing of office equipment such as MFPs and printers. Therefore, after many years of centralized printing and a reduction in the number of desktop devices, it is likely that we see a reversal of this trend: companies will revert back to decentralized printing and individual desktop A4 MFPs and printers.

Moreover, this phased return to the office environment means a huge importance will continue to be placed on efficient digital processes. Such solutions will replace many of the paper-dependent processes still present in many companies and we will see an increased demand for services and digital solutions like process consultancy, document management solutions, and business process automation.

At Kyocera, we have always viewed challenges as opportunities and this period of change is no different. We have long been aware of the increasing importance of digital solutions across all industries and have invested a huge amount of resources in research and development. This allows us to consistently provide our customers with the the most innovative solutions and generate even greater value.

As a result, we are proud to say that Kyocera is in an excellent position to satisfy this change in demand. We believe that we have the most competitive A4 MFP and printer line-up in the industry, and that will help us to meet the increasing demand for desktop devices.

Key to this growth will be Databank, one of Kyocera Document Solutions America, Inc.‘s Group companies. An industry leader in process automation and document management, we will leverage their know-how and capabilities to satisfy these new customer demands.

It is fundamental that we provide the solutions that the market will demand. As previously mentioned, the digitalization process has been accelerated rapidly and from a product perspective, we need to accelerate the integration of our software solutions with our hardware portfolio.

To continue exceeding customer expectations, it is vital that our A4 products offer the same functionality as our A3 devices. The integration of document management and workflow solutions combined with a seamless customer experience when managing paper and digital documents has been hugely popular among Kyocera customers. We want to continue to raise the bar with regards efficiency and productivity.

Finally, we are also expecting a significant growth in the demand for production inkjet, and Kyocera will make a significant investment to develop products to cope with that demand. The ground-breaking TASKalfa Pro 15000c represented an exciting new direction for Kyocera and we are confident that this printer will be the springboard for tremendous growth in this segment of the printer market.

A lot has changed since the arrival of the pandemic, but a lot has stayed the same. We are still the Kyocera that champions collaboration and innovation, and the Kyocera which strives to become better day after day for our partners and our customers. As we have throughout our history, we will adapt to these new times to find new offers for our clients, both new and existing. This spirit of innovation means that together we can lead change and be the disruptors, not the disrupted.
