New solution based on HP T400 Simplex Color Inkjet Web Press designed specifically for high-volume packaging

LONDON, June 2, 2014 — HP today announced the HP High-speed Inkjet Corrugated Packaging Solution enabling high-volume packaging converters to realize the benefits of digital production.

Screen Shot 2014-02-11 at 2.36.04 PMBuilding on the success of its high-speed inkjet web press portfolio in production mail, publishing and commercial print, HP is extending its proven technology into packaging. The new solution, based on the HP T400 Simplex Color Inkjet Web Press, allows converters to transition high-value jobs from analog litho-lamination and flexographic processes to digital to take advantage of short and medium runs, versioning and reduced costs. This switch helps meet customer demand for fast time to market, micro-segmentation, increased production flexibility and a reduced environmental footprint.

“The corrugated market is ripe for digital transformation as converters look to reduce costs while marketers and brands want to make a more targeted, effective impact with their packaging,” said Aurelio Maruggi, vice president and general manager, Inkjet High-speed Production Solutions Division, HP. “The new HP packaging solution was created with converters in mind, delivering the speed, quality and versatility they need to replace or complement traditional analog technology with digital.”

With speeds up to 182 meters (600 feet) per minute or up to 12,000 m2/hour (129 thousand square feet or MSF/hour), the HP T400 Simplex press offers digital production of preprint rolls to make corrugated board in roll-to-roll or roll-to-sheet configurations, combined with high speed lamination or narrow web corrugation. Ideal for production of corrugated boxes and high-quality displays, the digital platform delivers faster turnaround times with minimal set-up required. It also increases operational efficiencies for short- and medium-run production with reduced waste as well as provides cost-effective versioned and personalized output.

Featuring 1,200 nozzles per inch, the press delivers reliable printing with redundancy. The packaging solution also prints on existing uncoated and coated corrugated substrates, including both recycled and thin liners as well as premium offset media. Other features include:

  • Unwind and rewind stands that handle 1.5 meter (60 inch) diameter rolls of standard corrugated media with 4 inch (.1 meter) cores
  • Formats ranging from 106 centimeters (42 inches) wide to 2.7 meters (108 inches) long in a single frame length
  • A new coating solution for media priming with HP Priming Agent technology and overprint varnishing with existing aqueous fluids
