Six-color HP PageWide T1190 and T1170 Presses help packaging converters meet fast-changing brand needs

BERLIN, Germany, May 16, 2018 – HP Inc. today announced two new six-color PageWide ultra high-volume inkjet web presses for pre-print corrugated packaging, the HP PageWide T1190 and HP PageWide T1170, offering higher productivity and quality for the world’s most productive digital packaging presses.1

The new flagship PageWide T1190 Press offers 67% more throughput productivity compared with the current PageWide T1100S, delivering up to 1000 linear feet per minute (305 meters/minute) in six colors at full press speed. The addition of six-color printing (CMYKOV) also expands the color gamut for matching colors, opening new digital possibilities for brands, including short-runs, faster turnaround time, and versioning.

At Fespa, HP is presenting its six-color PageWide print samples for the first time in the Corrugated Experience Center (Hall 5.2, C38).

These ultra-wide 110-inch (2.8m) Thermal Inkjet technology web presses are ideal for packaging converters seeking analog-to-digital transformation with high-volume productivity in offset quality for pre-print corrugated packaging applications. Additionally, the presses use HP A30 true water-based inks, containing no UV-reactive chemistries, and requiring no additional barriers for food packaging applications.2

HP customers continue to invest in digital

Italy’s Ghelfi Ondulati S.p.A. installed a PageWide T1100S in the summer of 2016, and is now upgrading to the PageWide T1170. “The new six-color capability of the PageWide T1170 Press will allow us to address a broader color gamut to help meet the rigorous color demands of southern Europe’s leading brands,” said Luca Simoncini, digital program manager, Ghelfi Ondulati S.p.A.. “This color extension will allow us to open new opportunities, with virtually no quality obstacles.”

The PageWide T1170 Press prints 600 linear feet per minute (183 meters/minute) in six colors, compared with four-color printing at the same speed on the PageWide T1100S. Both the T1170 and T1190 presses are suitable for both coated and uncoated media, from 80 gsm to 350 gsm. Additionally, HP Multi-lane Print Architecture (MLPA) boosts plant productivity by splitting the web into multiple print lanes, so different jobs, with different box sizes and run lengths, can be printed in the individual lanes. Multiple ultra-short or short runs can be queued and printed together while a long run is printed in another lane.

The first PageWide T1190 Press will be a field upgrade to the T1100S that DS Smith is installing in its Fulda, Germany plant. “The T1190’s industry-leading 6-color, high-speed 2.8 wide digital pre-print system will enable new efficiencies for our customers,“ said Stefano Rossi, CEO, DS Smith Packaging. “Plus, with our new six-color capability, we will expand our gamut and create even greater digital value for brands.”

“We are proud to deliver field upgrades to the PageWide T1100 Press Series just two years after installing the first press with DS Smith Packaging,” said Eric Wiesner, general manager, PageWide Industrial division, HP Inc. “HP’s unique digital pre-print technology continues to disrupt the corrugated package market, driving greater business efficiency for converters and their brands.”

HP’s digital pre-print solution helps corrugated converters reduce inventory and accelerate turnaround time, while also enabling more flexibility and smaller order quantities.
