By Andy Slawetsky – Bleeping Computer reported on August 16 2020 that Konica Minolta had been hit by a new ransomware incident at the end of July that “impacted services for almost a week.”

Conversations with KM insiders have confirmed there was, indeed an “incident,” but it seems that it is not the same Maze ransomware situation that Canon and Xerox have been dealing with.

The incident apparently began in June and resulted in KM “proactively taking down public websites for about a day as well as customer portals” to ensure their resellers were not impacted if they did have a significant breach.

In the end, there was “no loss of customer or business data,” according to the source.

Recently, some KM printers were also seen printing out threatening messages. It is not clear at this time if these messages are part of a separate situation, but at the moment, Konica Minolta appears to have dealt with the problems and things seem to be under control.

More on this as it becomes available.
