Voted “Best Presentation in General Commercial” at Inkjet Summit

As an invite-only audience of industry thought leaders and decision makers recently converged in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, for the third annual Inkjet Summit, one of Muller Martini’s innovative strategies for offset/digital migration received their recognition and support. The company was awarded “Best Presentation in General Commercial” for its case study which addressed the following challenge: How to upgrade traditional saddle stitching equipment with a “hybrid” solution that can process both offset and Variable Data Printing (VDP) digital products.

Voters of the award included more than 20 highly influential representatives from the commercial printing space, which consisted of vice presidents, chief executive officers, chief operating officers, chief strategy officers, and R&D managers. The presentation’s relevance resonated with its audience, as it addressed a growing concern within the commercial print community, i.e., how can legacy binding equipment be complemented with new technology which can accommodate their ever-growing digital demands?

The PrimeraDigital technology is the flagship of Muller Martini’s “hybrid” saddle stitching solutions portfolio. The award-winning presentation revealed how this technology:

Other advantages of this perfect binder include:

Achieves “hybrid” scalability with a single machine for both offset and digital applications
Upgrades existing saddle stitching capabilities with the potential for 2:1 replacement of aging equipment
Enhances digital production efficiency by maximizing the processing speed of digital output from nearly any printing device while at the same time minimizing labor requirements
Utilizes barcode-enabled “Touchless Workflow” to optimize VDP production and achieve full validation of product content

Commented Andy Fetherman, Director of Digital Solutions for Muller Martini, “What’s really exciting is that two years ago Muller Martini won a similar award at the Inkjet Summit for ‘Best Presentation in Book.’ Now, with inkjet’s ability to handle more substrates and higher ink coverage, the commercial market segment is also embracing the opportunities presented by adding digital capabilities to their workflow. Muller Martini has consistently been able to keep up with the trends happening in the market and deliver viable and highly robust finishing solutions that can help our customers compete in this exciting ‘hybrid’ landscape.”

One of the key advantages of the PrimeraDigital is its modularity, which enables it to expand its capabilities in order to meet varying workflows. Not only does this saddle stitching system provide the flexibility and efficiency to meet the demands of current customers, it also delivers investment protection for commercial printers as they plan for the future.

Added Mr. Fetherman, “Regardless of the printing process, it still comes down to finishing. Because until a book, or a brochure or a catalog is saddle stitched or bound, it’s just a printed page, not a finished product. Muller Martini achieved this particular award because we engineered a finishing solution that integrates the efficient processing of products printed with offset presses and every type of digital system (toner-based or inkjet; cut-sheet or roll-fed) into one highly productive system.”
