Graphic Designer – midweight
$46,929 – $54,750 + Superannuation

Experienced graphic designer required to fill a full time position in our vibrant and hard working team of designers based in Turner, Canberra.
In this position, you will work under the direction of the Director and Client Manager. You will be required to work on a range of different projects, particularly developing design of various printed and digital marketing material.
Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years experience in the design industry
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Acrobat Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
  • Ability to create (WCAG) accessible PDF’s, Word Documents and HTML
  • Experience in print and digital design
  • Typesetting (long documents) experience a must
  • Ability to take design to finished art
  • Ability to meet all required deadlines

Key Responsibilities
The Designer works closely with the client manager and the client to deliver original and creative design work. The Designer will track and manage assigned projects working with the client to ensure customer satisfaction and reporting daily to the director.
This position is integral to the activities of Papercut. As part of a small team the position plays an important role in supporting the development and publication of design products and in the overall communications within the team.
Under limited direction, the person appointed to the position will undertake a range of duties including:
Design

  •  Interpret creative briefs and provide professional guidance to achieve desired outcomes
  •  Work with team members to finalise and deliver design to client
  • Provide innovative ideas and solutions to briefs
  • Attend client briefings where appropriate
  • Typesetting and layout work of long documents
  • Manage job/project in consultation with team
  • Create mock-ups for clients

Team

  • Provide support to all team members
  • Work in a team and contribute/brainstorm ideas
  • Contribute to work social functions
  • Contribute to the ongoing promotion of Papercut

Administration

  • Record time and materials into Streamtime daily
  • Report job status daily to director
  • Take instruction from Studio Manager
  • Liaise with printers and suppliers on clients behalf
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work area
  • Assist with general cleaning, filing, administration tasks
  • Answer the telephone in a professional manner
  • Follow the studio work processes as outlined in the manual
  • Attend work meetings

Selection Criteria

  1. Proven experience in developing and implementing innovative designs and branding for traditional and digital communication products.
  2. Well-developed project management and organisational skills, including:
    a.     the ability to manage multiple projects and monitor work flows and standards to meet tight deadlines
    b.     demonstrated resilience and a team approach to work in a high pressure environment.
  3. Demonstrated experience and ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with staff and clients to produce high quality graphic design products using a variety of software packages.
    a.     experience in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Acrobat, Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
    b.     experience in adapting files to meet the online accessibility requirement
    c.     experience in using web content management systems.
  4. Demonstrated ability to deliver and operate with minimal supervision, to exercise initiative and sound judgement in a complex and dynamic work environment.
