An overflowing recycling bin next to a high school printer seeded one of Australia’s most successful software companies.   Chris Dance and Matt Doran started PaperCut Software back in 1998 after noticing some careless students were dumping volumes of paper after printing documents they didn’t even look at. Frustrated by the lack of thought around wasting paper, Chris and Matt developed a “little piece of software” to provide schools the control over who printed what and when.

That simple, downloadable tool spread like wildfire and soon the founders were implementing and rewriting more and more features to accommodate the needs of thousands of customers. It was happy customers who introduced PaperCut to Ivy League universities, prestigious schools, and then onto government departments and scores of businesses. The tool evolved into a suite of award-winning Print Management solutions that are now used in more than 110 countries, and translated into 27 different languages.

Today, PaperCut are the market leaders for Print Management solutions in the education sector both locally and internationally and are growing rapidly in all other segments. Chris and Matt’s commitment from that first day was to bring an easy-to-use solution to organizations around the world.

PaperCut software works on any platform (Windows, Mac, Linux and Novell) and integrates with the majority of printing and copying devices – giving the end customer the ultimate control and security in their print environment. That laser-like focus on customers, quality and rapid innovation has resulted in an ardent System Administrator following – some of them even writing tribute songs and poems in gratitude!

With the dedicated PaperCut developer, sales, marketing and support teams, Chris and Matt have created a true Australian success story. The founders have maintained a strong, coffee-fuelled, family-oriented culture throughout their meteoric growth and are extremely proud that their first employee, first customer and first reseller are still with PaperCut today.
