U.S. Patent No. 9,268,509 Covers Automated Systems for Measuring Printer Resources
and Transacting Environmental Offsets
DENVER (February 23, 2016) — PrintReleaf, Inc. (www.printreleaf.com), a leading provider of sustainability solutions and services, announced today the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 9,268,509. The patent issued reassures PrintReleaf’s partners and customers that the technology solutions and systems which they are using to measure printer resources and transact environmental offsets were designed in such unique ways that they warrant the legal protection afforded by the exclusivity secured by a U.S. patent. It is also a testament to PrintReleaf’s technology innovation. PrintReleaf will continue to protect its intellectual property, and the rights of its partners and customers who use its systems and technology.
“When we launched PrintReleaf, we set the goal of creating the world’s first platform to automate global reforestation for paper-based products,” said Jordan Darragh, founder and CEO of PrintReleaf. “Being awarded a patent is ultimate validation that we’ve met this particular goal; one which we are very grateful for.”
The recently issued patent, in general, among other things, covers an automated computer controlled system for measuring the consumption of printer resources and transacting environmental offsets, and may comprise a printer resource tracking system (PRTS) collecting resource consumption data from printing equipment. A transactional server may retrieve the resource consumption data from the PRTS. A consumed resource associated with a customer may be consumed by the printing equipment downstream of a supplier of the printer resources. An offset project may communicate with the transactional server and be capable of planting an environmental offset upstream of the supplier and offset an environmental impact of the consumed resource. A scaling factor may be dependent on distinctive characteristics of at least one offset project. A calculator may apply the scaling factor to the consumed resource to calculate the environmental offset. A user interface may present to the customer an option to order the environmental offset from an offset project.
Explained Darragh further: “We’ve worked very hard to develop our patent rights and it’s a great accomplishment which we can now share with our network of partners by providing them with a unique and competitive advantage in the marketplace while, at the same time, driving meaningful environmental and social impact”.
