By Dan Hellman – The day is here when ordering a replacement ink toner cartridge is as simple as . . . well, doing nothing at all. Amazon today announced the first devices that will be available with Amazon Dash Replenishment, a service that enables connected devices to automatically order physical goods from Amazon when supplies are running low.

The products that will support the service include compatible Brother printers, a General Electric washer, and a glucose monitor made by Gmate. Customers who own compatible Brother printers can take advantage of Dash Replenishment immediately. The GE washer and Gmate devices will be ready by the end of the month, according to Amazon. There’s no need for people to buy new devices to use the service — they just have to activate Amazon Dash Replenishment, the company said.

Other brands to join the Dash Replenishment program include Purell (soap and hand sanitizer) and Whirlpool (Smart Dishwasher). Amazon is encouraging other companies to integrate the replenishment program into their products by offering access to the Dash application program interface (API), a set of tools for building the Dash software. Amazon said it made the API as simple as possible for developers: it only uses about 10 lines of code.
