Given Xerox Corp.’s recent downsizing in Oregon, it is understandable that news Wednesday that the company was selling a piece of its Wilsonville business might be cause for concern.

“Our expectation is we will continue with the Wilsonville operations,” he said.

Xerox, which employs about 1,000 in Wilsonville, announced Wednesday that it is selling its product design, engineering and chemistry group to 3D Systems for $32.5 million. Under terms of the deal, South Carolina-based 3D Systems will lease space in buildings 60 and 61 on the Wilsonville campus and hire the 100 Xerox production engineers who are part of the group.

Wilsonville provides a wide range of research capabilities and print head development services, along with other assets, according to McKee. It is also integral to Xerox’s ColorQube solid ink line and its CiPress commercial printing line.
