The US$36 million printing device manufacturing plant operated by Tokyo-based Fuji Xerox officially become operational after an inauguration ceremony on Tuesday in the northern province of Hai Phong.

Screen Shot 2013-11-26 at 3.13.59 PMLocated at the Vietnam – Singapore Industrial Park, the 57,563-square-meter Fuji Xerox Hai Phong plant specializes in making digital color multifunction devices and small-sized light-emitting diode (LED) printers, and is capable of producing 2 million units per year.

The facility will also manufacture key components for these devices such as printed wiring boards and drum cartridge components.

Screen Shot 2013-10-01 at 1.38.54 PM“The facility marks a major milestone for the company in Vietnam and will serve as a key manufacturing hub globally,” Fuji Xerox said in a statement, adding the Hai Phong facility plans to meet its full manufacturing capacity by the end of fiscal 2015.

Fuji Xerox Co Ltd is a joint venture partnership between the Japanese photographic firm Fuji Photo Film Co, who hold a 75 percent stake, and US document management company Xerox, who hold 25 percent.

Fuji Xerox develop, produce and sell xerographic and document-related products and services in the Asia-Pacific region.

Screen Shot 2013-10-04 at 2.07.34 PMThe Hai Phong facility will be running on its first operational stage from now to the end of 2015. During this time 3,000 jobs for local people will be generated, according to Fuji Xerox chairman Tadahito Yamamoto.

Its 2 million devices produced every year will serve both the domestic and export markets, Yamamoto, who is also director of Fuji Photo Film, added.

The plant is also expected to source 80 percent of the necessary materials from local suppliers instead of sourcing from import.
